Tanah Datar Is All About

Tanah Datar is one of the  region district in West Sumatra province, Indonesia. Have covered about 133,600 hectare, with 70 rural district, 14 sub district, and the capital is situate on Batusangkar. Tanah Datar also known as central of Minangkabau culture, because it is the core  area of  Minangkabau itself; it is exactly at Dusun Tuo Pariangan in Pariangan sub district.The Tanah Datar region district was had a reward as seven best region district in Indonesia, this reward comes from International Partnership Institution and The British embassy, also The Indonesian Knowledge Institution nominate This region district as four of district which have best implementation of district autonomy issue.

Tanah Datar region district located among two mountains, which are Merapi mountain and Singgalang mountain. In geographical Tanah datar situating exactly in the middle of West Sumatra province, about 400 – 1000 above sea level,  dominant with hills and about two quarter of Singkarak lake. In the north side bordered with Agam and Lima Puluh Kota region district, in south bordered with Sawahlunto city and Solok regiom district, on the west side bordered with Padang Pariaman region district, and on the east side bordered with Sawahlunto Sijunjung region district. Tanah Datar have about 25 rivers, it is potential for agricultures, farms and also mine industries i.e. coals, gold, and sulphur. Tanah Datar also famous with the home industry of  fabric, it is known as tenunan pandai sikek.Luhak Nan Tigo is the other name of  Tanah Datar itself, it is potential also for nature, history, and cultural tourism, i.e. Istano Pagaruyuang, Balairung Sari, Batu Basurek, Ustano Rajo, Ngalau Pangian, Pantai Tanjung Mutiara, Balapan Kuda, Adu Kerbau and many more. /r.j

Adu Kerbau

Adu kerbau/ Buffalo Fighting is a tradition in nagari Pandai Sikek, Marapi, and Aie Angek – Tanah Datar region district. In Minangkabau to having a buffalo is a precious and a privilege matter. Minangkabau itself form by words; Minang/ Menang/ Victorious and Kabau/ Kerbau/ Buffalo, so Minangkabau means the Victorious of Buffalo. And when you look at Minangkabau House, the Rangkiang itself  refer to the horn of buffalo. Adu kerbau/ buffalo fighting is happening after the harvest season, it is to celebrating the harvest day /r.j
