All About West Sumatra

west-sumatra-emblem West Sumatra is one of the provinces in Indonesia, the 11th most wide area province. Located at west coast of Sumatra Island with area 42,297.30 KM square. West Sumatra Province had a landscape in the west coast, and the volcanic highland at the eastern, the Mentawai Island which was at Hindia Ocean was in this province. The shore of West Sumatra Province was 375 KM along the Hindia Ocean. It is about 0°-102° of south latitude and 98°-102° of east longitude.

There are a several lake in West Sumatra province, which are Maninjau lake about 99.5 KM square, Singkarak lake about 130.1 KM square, Diatas lake about 31.5 KM square, Dibawah lake about 14.0 KM square, and Talang lake about 5.0 KM square. A few of big, long and wide rivers at Sumatra island were end up at West Sumatra province, which are Siak river, Rokan river, Inderagiri river (named as Batang Kuantan at the ended), Kampar river, and Batang Hari river. All those rivers had mouth at Riau province and Jambi province. A short rivers which were mouth at west coast are Batang Anai river, Batang Arau river, and Batang Tarusan river. The mountain which are in West Sumatra province, Marapi mountain (2,891 M), Sago mountain (2,271 M), Singgalang mountain (2,877 M), Tandikat mountain (2,438 M), Talakmau mountain (2,912 M), and Talang mountain (2,572 M).

Inside West Sumatra tropical forest there are so many species was so rarely to found, such as Rafflesia Arrnoldi (the biggest flower in the world), Sumatra Tiger, Siamang, Tapir, Deer, Bear, and a varieties of birds and also butterflies. There are two national forest area in West Sumatra, which are Taman Nasional Siberut (located on Siberut island) and Taman Nasional Kerinci Seblat (located at four province at Sumatra island, which are West Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra). Beside those two, there are a count of pledge forest area, which are Alam Rimbo panti, Cagar Alam Lembah Anai, Cagar Alam Batang Palupuh, Cagar Alam Lembah Arau, Taman Raya Bung Hatta, and Cagar Alam Beringin Sakti.

The citizen of West Sumatra major in Minangkabau clans, at Pasaman beside minangkabau clan there is Batak Mandailing clan, and Mentawai clan is in Mentawai island. Mostly they use Minangkabau languages with native dialeque. Majority, Islam is their religion, but still are a few Christian, Budhist, Budha.

West Sumatra province have 12 region district, 7 district, 147 sub district, and 877 country/ rural district. To get to this province there are several point, from the air there is MIA/ Minangkabau International Airport (located at Padang Pariaman region district, about 20 KM from Padang city), from the sea there is Teluk Bayur port (located at Padang city), from land there is Terminal Regional Aia Pacah (located at Padang), and from the river there is Muara bay Padang.
